salon considerations

Why is there a range of prices for color?

There is a range for color pricing because there are many variables that affect our cost to perform the service. One variable is time. Longer, thicker hair takes more time. It takes more individual foils, more brush strokes and more of everything , which adds to the cost. Special effects and precise pattern placements can also take longer. Additionally, the more hair you have, the more product we use on it, and hair color is the most expensive cost we incur outside of payroll. Your service provider will adjust a mid range price up or down to account for the unique requirements of your hair. First time color guests are recommended to schedule a consultation prior to your appointment day to assure proper scheduling time and pricing before work begins.

Why do different stylists charge different prices for services?

Stylist’s prices are based on their industry experience and the amount of advanced education they have obtained. In general, you pay more for experience and advanced training. Feel free to request a stylist in the price range you are comfortable with.

All prices listed on our website are based on a level 1 stylists. Prices vary on time, lenght and thickness of hair All prices are subject to change.

What exactly is a new talent service?

The Jon Lori New Talents program let’s our new stylists get better acquainted with our guests by offering lower pricing & lower introductory price on select services.

All New Talent service providers are licensed cosmetologists who have graduated from our Academy, THE SALON PROFESSIONAL ACADEMY and completed our advanced in salon training programs and are honing their skills.

They provide the same exceptional services as expected, but at a lower price. The New Talents program is our way of introducing the newest and brightest talents from our academy to our guests.

What is the difference between a Trim and a Haircut?

There is no difference between a trim and a haircut. When asked if you’ll be receiving a haircut with color, some guests will respond “no, I just need a trim”. We know you hate to hear this, but a “trim” that removes one quarter inch takes just as long as a haircut that removes ten inches. Sometimes it takes longer, because of the precision involved in cutting a tiny amount all around. Bang trims are different. Bang trims really do take just a few minutes and are complimentary after your haircut.

How long will my color last?

If you use high quality products (shampoos, conditioners, and styling aids) specifically designed for colored hair, your hair color should last from 4 to 8 weeks, with 5 to 6 being typical. That’s a big range, but the variance has to do with your tolerance for fading, how often you wash your hair, how hot the water is and how much you’re in the sun. It’s a sad but true fact that reds have less longevity because of the unusual shape of the molecule . Color works by depositing molecules of pigment in your hair shaft and unfortunately they eventually fade. Water is the main culprit, but if you use inexpensive shampoos with detergents, your hair color will only last one to three weeks. An inexpensive non-color safe shampoo can strip out your color in as little as one washing. You may think we’re telling you this in order to get you to buy our products, this is not the case, higher detergent drugstore type shampoos will strip your color quickly. Also, conditioners with a high paraffin content will bind to your color causing fading and damage. Our stylist along with the high standards of the products used to create beautiful color, will not only maintain but will enhance the integrity of your hair, resulting in healthier longer lasting color. This is why it is important to purchase products in our salon recommended by your stylist.

What happens if I'm a 'no-show' or cancel the same day?

When your a ‘no-show’: or cancel with short notice, your service provider doesn’t get paid. Their bills don’t get paid. If you no-show once, we grin and bare it. If you ‘no-show’ twice, we still want to see you, but we will ask you to pay in advance to reserve your appointment time. It is possible for a color and cut to represent half of a service provider’s income for the day, so canceling with less than 24 hours notice really hurts.

What happens if I am late for my appointment?

We appreciate when you arrive on time, but we know that you may run late due to circumstances beyond your control. If you expect to be late for your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make any adjustments needed to keep you and your stylist on schedule. Although we try to accommodate late arriving guests, however it’s not always possible to give a late arriving guest their entire appointment time. This may result the need to reschedule, especially if the guest is more than 10-15 minutes late. Please note that the guest may be charged 50% the cost of your appointment if repeatedly late.

How much should I tip?

It is customary to tip a hairstylist & colorist just as you would a server in a restaurant. If the service is excellent, then you tip 20%, if the service is good 15% and so on.

We try our best to have one assocaite work on you throuhout your service, however at times several different people may be involved. It’s standard to pay $3 to $5 to each individual who shampoos and/or blows out your hair.

What should I do if I'm not happy?

Tell us. Tell us. Tell us. You get the idea. We need to know or we can’t do anything about it. We really go out of our way to make our guests happy and when someone isn’t, we will do what it takes to correct the situation. Most guests that aren’t happy tend to go away quietly, because they are uncomfortable with expressing their concerns. Please believe us when we tell you that, we consider it a favor when you inform us if your of services in any way did not meet your expectations. We strive to exceed every guests expectations from the minute you choose our salon. All of us at Jon Lori will take your concerns and improve upon them ,But you must please tell us.

I would like to try another stylist, but I don't want to offend my current stylist.

Each of our staff understands that as hard as they try, they will not be the right fit for every guest. Our guest services staff frequently suggests other stylists when the requested one is busy, all of our stylist are okay with that. You won’t hurt anyone’s feelings when you decide to make a change and in fact, we have guests that rotate who they see, just to mix it up. Sometimes a change is what you need, and we hope that when you do make a change, you make a change of service providers within our salon, and not a change of salons. So choose who you want and don’t worry about it. Your old stylist will still talk to you, smile at you and most definitely will not be offended.

Why are Blow dry’s not included with my color Service?

This question comes up quite often. A blowout is a totally separate service & is scheduled separately. For most guests the blow out takes more time than a color application & more time than a hair cut most times.

We give our clients the option to customize their experience. We are giving you the option to skip a blow dry. If we included the blow dry in with your color service it would be considerable more expensive & you would be paying for a service you may not always get or want (especially in summer months when a lot of guests like to go out wet & hit the beach )

Can I have a lower level stylist Blow out my Hair at a lower price?

Absolutely if time & availability exist

Why can’t I blow out my own hair?

Allowing guests to style their own hair can be a liability. We understand some salons do allow this, however we feel its unprofessional for guest to perform a service on themselves when it’s a service we provide.

Why are there specialty Styling option pricing?

Special Occasion, formal styling or formal blows outs come in various shapes and styles, including Pinned, up curls, down curls, up smooth styles, down smooth styles, half up/half down styles, plaits and braids. A style created correctly takes time, experience & will not only look fabulous, but will also be durable. Please see our Formal styling menu

What does "corrective color mean?

Jon Lori Salon provides exceptional color correction services that emphasize restoring the health of damaged hair.

Color Correction services are performed by high-level colorist’s who have had extensive education in this delicate service. Color Correction is a specialty and is a service to be provided only by extremely experienced hands. It involves the science of color removal or depositing, tonal changes as well as neutralization of unwanted tones, all while meticulously maintaining the integrity of the hair. We use only high quality color lines as well as treating the hair with strength building protein and moisture infusing treatments during this service.

In many cases, color correction will take many hours to complete, with follow up appointments needed to achieve your desired color as well as maintaining the condition of your hair. Please allow plenty of time while you are in the salon, as this is not a service where short cuts will ever be taken. Total color transformation, which means taking the hair from light to dark, or dark to light, requires much of the same skills and time as color correction.

Cost is to be determined by the length of time it takes to perform the correction and will be discussed during the consultation. A Color Correction/Color Change Agreement & Price Estimate will be provided at consultation

What is your return policy on products?

Returns of unopened or defective products are never an issue. Defective products are products that don't work because the bottle is leaking, the sprayer won't spray, etc. Basically you can't use it as intended. We will swap it out or refund it at your option. Returns of opened, unsalable products you don't like or would like to exchange for another product will be refunded within 10 days of purchase.

Due to the amount of time scheduled, to perform a Keratin Treatment a deposit of $150 is required when booking service. The deposit is deducted from your service at your appointment. No-shows & appointments not canceled with 48 hrs will loose the deposit.

A release form is required for Keratin treatments. This form explains the expectations of Keratin services along with information after treatment & our guarantee.

Can you recommend a stylist to come to my home, hotel or event location?

The salon typically does not perform services outside the salon, due to NJ Cosmetology rules, liability & time
